I am fully aware:

 

- that the Corsican language is the language of Corsicans and of Corsica.

 

- that the Corsican language is part of the inheritance of humanity.

 

- that today this language is not spoken anymore in the streets.

 

- that the situation demands to act now!...

 

... hoping to see the fruits in at least one generation.

 

This is why, by signing this petition:

 

- I commit myself to do my part so that the Corsican language should find its natural place in the society,

 

- I ask the Assembly of Corsica and the State :

1. Corsican language, official language. This is about giving a statute to the Corsican language to establish, by the legislative way, the parity of Corsican with French. The linguistical politics should detain all means necessary to th e building of a bilingual society, going over all the legal obstacles.
2. immersion in the nursery schools and bilingualism from the primary school to the university. It is a question of generalizing Corsican in education. First of all by plunging the children in a total linguistic bath; then, by installing bilingualism; Corsican then is not only an object of teaching but also an instrument to teach all subjects.
3. to create a pole of many and qualified trainers. The objective is to be able to rely on people of a high level of proficiency in Corsican language, to spread them on all the insular territory,introduce the language into each sector of the society.
4. to ensure an obligatory consequent formation for all the personnel of all the companies. The obligation is the only manner of defining an effective program of training which will touch as many people as possible. This formation requires a considerable financial and human means. Several years will be necessary to extend it everywhere. It is thus essential to start as soon as possible.
5. to propose a formation for the unemployed persons, the retired and the members of the diaspora. This means to be able to initiate, encourage the request and to be able to satisfy it by mobilizing the trainers in the island and out of the island.
6. to introduce the Corsican language in the formations and the contests of the island. It is a question of introducing Corsican into all the trainings which are given on the island by various organizations (GRETA, sea school, agricultural ...). As for the other matters the Corsican language must be subjected to an examination in the contests carried out in the island (contest of the territorial public office, nurse...). This measure will probably lighten the weight of formation inside the company and to constitute a quota of people who will be able to adopt Corsican in their relations with the public as soon as they are employed.
7. to mobilize Corsican of the diaspora. A certain number of exiled people has a strong feeling of belonging to the Corsican community. Many are those who know corsican and even speak it well . In fact, the diaspora constitutes a resource, which can come to reinforce the movement that we want to impel, if we really want that the Corsican language live. It thus appears necessary to intensify the exchanges with them in order to strengthen the bond between all of us and to offer them more occasions to practise the Corsican language. For that, it is obviously advisable to be based on the existing network of corsican associations from the outside.
8. a radio and a TV in Corsican language. It means gradually transform RCFM and France 3 Corsica Via Stella into medias of expression mainly in Corsican language, in order to create a public space devoted to the Corsican language among an audio-visual landscape of French expression or others...
9. to encourage the use of the Corsican language in the private media. The objective is to help creating programs in Corsican language by the means of inciting measures (money, publicity, help in making dossiers ...).
10. to support the cultural activity in Corsican language. This help relates to literature, theatre, songs, cinema, protection of patrimony... It can take various forms from financial assistance for cultural creation, with helps to export shows out of Corsica, to provide places of spectacles ,to help promoting cultural products.
11. to translate famous literary works, success movies... The translation can touch many fields: books for children, novels studied in class, known literary pieces, success movies... It can be quoted that the translation, beyond the cultural field, concerns also all the administrative acts. The translation would be in fact a manner of valuing the language, of enabling it to conquer new spaces and to contribute to its training.
12. toponymy and highway code only in Corsican language. For the names of the places , writing only in Corsican language is the right thing to do. This measure would allow the respect of a cultural inheritance and would make the reading of the road-signs easier. As for the highway code, the drawings and symbols are an international language understood by everyone; along with these drawings, a writing only in Corsican language is clear enough.
13. charts IGN and the land register only in Corsican language. This measure makes a logical correspondence with the installation of a toponymy only in Corsican language. It also leads to adapt the dictionary of the communes to Corsican language.
14. communal signaletics with a bilingual writing. This signaletics relates to the signs of orientation and information of the communities, of the administrative, touristic and cultural services and of the transportation areas... The writing can be only in Corsican or bilingual when there could be a problem of comprehension.
15. heading to Corsican signaletics in the economic world. To enhance the visual presence of the Corsican language in the private a signaletics in corsican could be chosen. More than financial measures, it could be possible to ask translators or to take into account the Corsican language in a label which recognizes the quality and the specificity of the insular products.
16. to create an office of the Corsican language. This is about a structure in charge of coordinating measures necessary to the application of the linguistic policy. This office would also ensure the promotion of its policy to encourage the people to get mobilized for their language. Finally it would make sure the schedule is respected and would regularly control the health of the language in order to make the measures fit the situation.
